  • [SOLVED] OTM 5.5: CU3 running on Linux AS 3 Upd 4 with JRockit 27.3.1

    Hi everyone,

** Try At Your Own Risk - The Following Configuration Is NOT Supported By Oracle **

Just to let you all know that I have been running OTM 5.5 CU3 on BEA JRockit 27.3.1 - JDK 1.4.2.1_14 and it has been running well.

We have experienced smoother responses as well as better performance on the Java side - however, I don't have VolanoMark to provide benchmarks. Will do so once I get my hands on VolanoMark.

    Things to note:
    - Heap size was set to 2GB only as we were experiencing unstability and frequent crashes when we set the heap to 2.5GB.
    - When shutting down Tomcat, the Waiting for Tomcat To Shutdown repeated messages were no longer appearing. Tomcat shutdown was smooth and fast.

Many thanks to CP for your help!

    Ian

    Ian,

You're very welcome for the help and thank you for posting this information.

Just a note for everyone, on Linux I've had to drop the JVM heap sizes down to 2GB (from 2.5GB) for several clients now in order to maintain stability within OTM. This is the recommended heap size for best performance on this platform. Just keep in mind that JRockit uses a lot of memory outside the heap for caching and performance optimizations, so a JVM with a 2GB heap may use a total of 3.5GB of memory. This is important when sizing the heap to your physical memory available.

    Thanks,
    Chris
