  • Creating prod OTM environment

    Hello,
We have multiple OTM environments (i.e. unit test, system test, performance, training, etc.), and are approaching production implementation. In preparation, we're planning to simulate the cutover in a test environment, and are weighing the options of a complete "fresh" install (re-install actually, as both the prod and the test environments already exist) vs. restoring a database from a "seed data" backup that we've used in creating other instances. There is some concern that using the "seed data" starting point may be an issue with Oracle support - is this likely? Also, if we were to do the "fresh install" of the DB, using the DB create ("script8" dir) scripts, will this necessitate reinstalling the OTM application?
    Regards,
    Scott T.

    Re: Creating prod OTM environment

    Scott,

You can certainly do a DB copy from one environment to another provided that the OTM application is on the same CU and RU level. If you do decide to perform and export/import keep in mind that you need to re-run the post DB import scripts that can be found in your admin guide that begins with the section that asks to run the create_vpd_package. One other thing to keep in mind. If you copy your production DB to test/dev you need to update the contact email and external systems so that no test orders end up going to your production carriers/systems.

If you want to do a fresh install and you already have OTM installed on that application server, you don't need to reinstall the application, all that is needed is running the create_glog_roles.sql and create_glog_users.sql.

      Scott,

The Scalability configuration (SCA) is stored in the database and would need to be updated to reflect the Application Server hosts in Test or Production environment depending which environment is receiving the refresh.

      Chris

I don't think Scott is running a SCA environment.

          Re: Creating prod OTM environment

          Hello,
Actually, we are SCA in a couple of environments (Perf and Prod). Good point, Chris, about the SCA definitions. We actually had to run them back into the Perf OTM once, after restoring the DB from the "seed data" backup. We'll need to do a similar exercise here when we refresh the production db. The simulated cutover in the test environment will just skip this step, as it will not be SCA.
          Thanks,
          Scott T.

Ah ok...just keep in mind you should mention that especially to support when you log tickets as SCA is a different beast on its own. Yes you will need to update the app server information in the database before starting up your instance.
