  • Freezing issue

    Hi,

    Version:5.5 CU3
    Client:VOLVO

The client uses a custom OR screen.Sometimes it happens that the screen freezes, means it just hangs up on the production instance.then the user either has to wait for some 5 minutes or kill the session and start a new session.

This issue happens rarely.Any guidance on what is the cause and solution for this problem. Its very rare to replicate it.

They use MicroSoft IE 6.0 as browser and Apache as Web Server with Tomcat as Servlet Container and WebLogic as App Server.

Appreciate for any help given at the earliest.

    Regards,
    Nikesh.

    Re: Freezing issue

    Nikesh,

I was actually on-site with Volvo back in 2006 and had helped them resolve this issue in their previous environment. It was related to the reverse-proxy server and IE. Can you tell me when the problem re-surfaced? Was there a recent upgrade to OTM or their SiteMinder reverse-proxy, or other network infrastructure?

Also, are Casparis van Mierlo or Anders Leth still there with Volvo?

      Re: Freezing issue

      Hi Chris,

Thanks a lot for your response.Yes,I am working on-site for VOLVO.Also Anders Leth is there with VOLVO.I have not yet heard of Mierlo.Recently Volvo migrated to 5.5 CU3 last month. There are some freezing issues with the production instance, which occurs not frequently.

Did you resolve the issue in 5.0 env.?I had also checks on the log-files of Tomcat,Apache and WebLogic.Everything seems to be fine.It will be great if you could let me know how the issue was resolved the issue,so that I can try here. What I think is that there is some problem with reverse-proxy server and IE,may be like the response given back to proxy server from Web server and the reverse proxy server is unable to understand the response, thus the browser hangs up.This is what I think of it,as of now.

Please help me at the earliest.

      Regards,
      Nikesh.

        Re: Freezing issue

        Nikesh,

It's been nearly 2 years since I was on-site helping them with this issue, but as I remember, it was related to the reverse-proxy server that they utilized and how it handled SSL sessions from IE. Due to a bug with IE, there were some changes we had to make to the configuration in order to prevent Internet Explorer from hanging. To test this, you may want to try using Firefox, as the issue should not exist with it.

I'm wondering why this issue has returned. Have they recently upgraded the reverse-proxy server?

Should they need any additional help, please let me know.

        Thanks,
        Chris

          Re: Freezing issue

Better late than never I guess :-)

          Nikesh,
I work at Volvo - I'm 3rd level support with the Web Security Service Chris is talking about - I'd rather not talk about specifics of our infrastructure here, but I'm fairly certain we can help you with the problem - please either contact me or VINST ticket this to the WSS team - if you're still experiencing these issues with OTM and I'll help you out.
