  • On Screen Alerts

    Hi,

Can I create "on screen alerts" in OTM to warn users in case a check such as denied party / credit check fails...if so how....

You can go some way with that requirement using the Action check functionality. Check out the on-line help in the first place.

      The simple answer is no.

Oh to have the ability to pop up a message box on the screen with a few well chosen words
      or
to have the screen to just display your message.

The only way I have achieved (to some degree) what you require - is to send the user an email

Action check has it limitation. Action check cannot be triggered if you are usng order template.

          Re: On Screen Alerts

Hi, of course Action checks have their limitations, however, they were designed for quite a specific purpose and I have used them to check that when a user creates, for example, an order base, that certain criteria are met. If those criteria are not met, the user gets an on-screen message that tells them, in text that you can configure, why the action has failed and the resolution to that problem which is all based on the action check configuration.

As with all things, it depends on the exact requirements that you have and in the requirements above, order templates were not mentioned. Having said that, I would be surprised that if you put an action check on the Add Order base action, that when you use order templates to create an order base, those action checks were not invoked. If that does not work, then I would log that with Oracle support as some kind of enhancement request (assuming that it is a key requirement for your project).

Have check with Oracle Support. They have requested us to put up a enhancement request. . I thought that suppose to be included since you can use action check in order base, why not order template? Is it a bug yet they ask us to raise enhancement request.

Looking back at my past thread 4 years ago... Oracle still has not provide a solution to it. I have been getting so many requests from users for an alert message but till now it has been no way in OTM. .

                Hi ,

Please let me know if below approaches serves you purpose :
                1. Create a new navigation Like credit check /Denied Party .Then put a restriction at screen set under default criteria Tab.Here you will only show those records.
                2. Create a refnum and show it as a field where it's visible is high .

These are alternate approaches .Hope it helps you .
                regards

                  Hi Chaudhary,

I am not sure what you are asking me to do. Thanks for your reply. My requirement is simple, In any of the custom action button like [Cancel Order], when user click on the action, OTM should display an alert message - "The Booking will be canceled, click Ok to continue" user click on [OK] button to proceed or [cancel] to drop it.

                  Can it be done?

                  Thanks.

                        Re: On Screen Alerts

OTM uses only functional pop-ups, for example when you try to create a location without a country code. If you want to delete a bunch of order releases, there will be non pop-up but you will receive a confirmation screen that tells you if the orders were successfully deleted, or not. OTM assumes the user knows what he/she is doing.

What you want is a user specific pop-up screen, and here you can end up in endless discussions about how this screen should look like, how many 'are-you-really-really-sure?' dialogs should pop-up, language issues, and it makes sense to me that Oracle development want to stay away from this.

An alert dialog box is mostly used to give a warning message to the users. What i want is a simple alert prompt that will prompt user if they want to delete any order or shipment. Alert prompt is a basic web functionality and Oracle development cannot stay away from it years after years. Our web technology has advanced so far, Oracle development should keep up to it. The solution is simple.
In the action manager, provide a alert prompt checkbox. If checked, a standard message will be displayed. [Do you want to continue ?] or a label can be used. The option is only [ok] or [Cancel]. Language should not be oracle problem given the design can support multiple languages. For now, our standard answer to operational or customer can only be "OTM assumes the user knows what he/she is doing"
