  • SMC Carrier Connect

    Hello
Has anyone implemented connectivity between OTM and SMC's Carrier connect for calculating distance and service time? We are interested in how well it integrates and any pain points you may have found.
    Thanks!

      Re: SMC Carrier Connect

      Hi Sam,

The client I am working with is looking to use Carrier connect functionality. I could use and looking for any OTM documentation regarding setup. We will be loading and configuring very soon for v6.1. (soon mean in the next couple of months or sooner)

        Re: SMC Carrier Connect

There is not much in OTM to configure in order to use SMC Carrier Connect. It involves setting up a rate service for it using the Rate Service Type of External Transit Days and making sure that the valid SCAC code is defined for each carrier.

          @EmergeNow:

We are also working on SMC3/Carrier Connect integration to OTM. When we use 'External Transit Days' in rate inquiry, the transit time field is null. Bulk plan fails for the same. With simulation everything works fine. Do I need to do any other setup or set any property? I have set the below to true, still no luck.

          glog.RatingEngine.Rateware.NewAPI=true

          Regards,
          Rajiv

            Re: SMC Carrier Connect

That is the only property that is needed for SMC Carrier Connect. I would suggest calling SMC technical support to ensure that there is nothing missing in the setup. Beyond that, you will need to review the log files to troubleshoot the issue.

              Rajiv,

On the Windows server that is running Rateware, you can run the app called Sample Rater to see if all of your weight, class etc are setup. If the data returns correctly then you either have an issue with your setup in OTM, or a connectivity issue to this server.

The newAPI property was used for the later versions of Rateware. Besides this the only other property that needs to be set it the one for the Rateware server and port in the glog.properties.

                Re: SMC Carrier Connect

@Emergenow: Thanks. Yes, I did go through the logs once. I saw exceptions related to Service time. I had raised an SR and uploaded the logs to Oracle support.

                Nick,

SMC3 rate inquiry is working normal for us with NMFC, SCAC codes etc added. We face issue only in carrier connect. When we set the rate service type as External Transit Days, and the property I mentioned earlier is set, OTM does give results in rate inquiry but with out transit time. (also BP fails)

I hope the sample rater (Tariff code, origin zip, dest zip, NMFC and weight) allows to check only for SMC3 rateware and not carrier connect. Am I correct in making this statement? b/c i didnt see an option here for the same. Is there any seperate way for carrier connect too?

                Thanks,
                Rajiv

                  Re: SMC Carrier Connect

Carrier Connect has it's own application you can run your tests in on that server. If they return it should all work.

We have two customers that use Carrier Connect and can tell you as long as you use the default installation and ports for both applications, it should all work. There is no additional configuration that needs to be done on the Windows server.

                    Re: SMC Carrier Connect

Thanks Nick. Yes I was able to locate an application "Carrier Service"

Here the expected input data (Origin, Destination zips, Display Service and Customer). I dont understand the two values under Customer - "COM Dcoumentation" and "COM Examples". Any value I select here or in display service, I get an error stating "Invalid Procedure Call or argument".

Does that mean the connection is not established b/w OTM and Carrier Connect?

                      Re: SMC Carrier Connect

Enter the Orgin, Destintaion and select all for the display. Leave the other field blank. If the data returns you are good.

Yes, you are right. This did give results when I skip customer. Now we confirm Carrier Connect connection is established with OTM. Am I right Nick? If so I need to follow with oracle support for planning failure.

                        Thanks for your support.

                          Re: SMC Carrier Connect

Make sure you have servprov alias qual = SC and a valid scac code for the value for your carrier using carrier connect.

Resurrecting this thread to ask: How does one change the port the OTM uses to communicate to CarrierConnect?

                              Re: SMC Carrier Connect

Found the answer to my question. It seems that OTM communicates to CarrierConnect via SMC Rateware. So technically there isn't a port. Instead, as I believe to be true is that Rateware instantiates the CarrierConnect COM dll and responds to OTM's initial request with CarrierConnect data only when the glog.properties file includes the setting previously mentioned in this thread. So, technically, since there is no "port" that CarrierConnect uses, it can not be changed. Or, effectively, if one wanted to change the port in use then they would have to change the SMC RateWare port.
